Understanding Powered Access:
Powered access refers to Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), which include equipment like scissor lifts, boom lifts (cherry pickers), used for safe working at height in construction, maintenance, events, and industrial projects. These machines are essential for tasks requiring elevated access, ensuring efficiency and safety by reducing the risks associated with ladders or traditional scaffolding. Al Laith offers a wide range of powered access solutions, including rental and sales of certified equipment, with a focus on compliance with international standards. In the UAE, the powered access industry is regulated under federal laws emphasizing occupational health and safety.

Role of an AWP Technician:
As an AWP technician in Al Laith's powered access division, you will support the maintenance, repair, and inspection of powered access equipment to ensure it meets safety and operational standards. Key responsibilities include:
  • Performing  routine inspections, servicing, and troubleshooting of MEWPs like scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • On-site installations, deliveries, and client demonstrations.
  • Adhering to safety protocols during equipment handling and testing. This role is hands-on, combining workshop-based work with field experience.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Performing  maintenance, inspection, and repair of AWP (Aerial Work Platform) machines.
  • Diagnose  and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Overhaul and refurbish spare parts as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Travel to job sites as needed to provide on-site repairs and support.
Training and Development:

Training covers equipment operation, safety procedures, maintenance techniques, and UAE-specific regulations. Skills and Personal Attributes:        
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • One or Two year technical education
  • Quick learner with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to work in both workshop and field environments.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Basic English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
Requirements:
  • Ideal candidates should possess 2 to 3 years of hands-on technical experience in servicing, diagnosing, and repairing Aerial Work Platforms (AWPs) or related heavy equipment.
  • Candidates with a formal technical qualification, such as an ITI certificate or a Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automobile Engineering, along with 2 to 3 years of relevant field experience, are strongly preferred. 
  • Previous experience working within GCC countries is highly desirable, as it ensures familiarity with regional safety standards, site operational protocols, extreme weather working conditions, and multicultural workplace environments.
